Position: Senior Postal Officer
Job purpose
- Providing a quality service to customers, with a focus on exceeding their expectations.
- Possessing thorough knowledge of the full range of Australia Post products and services.
- Ensuring the team complies with strict Australia Post policies and procedures
- Supervision of DLPO team in conjunction with DLPO Manager
- Ensuring DLPO team comply with all relevant governing bodies, policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
1. Compliance
Adherence against all Australia Post contract requirements including, but not limited to:
- Guidelines and timeframes regarding mail-theft, delivery problems and lost or damaged mail.
- Cash handling procedures
- Stock management
- Freight processes, including loading and unloading.
2. General
- In conjunction with DLPO Manager, ensure the Post Office is ready for opening – tills balanced, time lock safes in place, countertops prepared.
- Close and balance the Australia Post retail system and processing of daily and weekly takings.
- Deliver a professional service to customers at all times, exceeding customer expectations and maintaining high standards of customer service.
- Process all Government applications in line with relevant procedures.
3. Mail
Meet all Australia Post Policies in relation to the handling and processing of all mail
- In conjunction with DLPO Manager; assist and supervise staff in the sorting of mail and parcels.
- Ensure the processing of all daily mail bags at the close of business, distribution of receive care-of mail and parcels and all return to sender mail in accordance with Australia Post policies and procedures.
4. Stock Managment
- Under the direction of DLPO Manager carry out pricing and shelf-replenishment of stock as required.
- Monitor retail and consumable stock, reporting to DLPO Manager Inventory requirements for ordering.
Essential skills and experiences
- High-level communication skills
- Well-developed customer service skills
- Cash management, processing of cheques, credit cards, EFTPOS, money orders and banking.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitasking across a range of activities.
- High level of organisational problem solving, initiative and time management skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in remote areas.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with difficult clients and from diverse backgrounds.
- Names of two professional referees to be provided.
Mandatory clearances
- Training and security clearances (where required) to be able to work in the Post Office.
- Must pass a police check.
- Must be an Australian Citizen – to conduct and process a range of identity services transactions. Eg, Australian passports
- W.A Drivers licence or other State/Territory. (Must re-sit for WA MDL as per WA Department of Transport legislation).
- Pre-employment drug & alcohol test.
- Drug and alcohol tests are also routinely conducted on all employees.
Physical demands of the position
- Must be able to lift up to 20kg on a repetitive basis.
- Able to stand for the duration of working hours.
Desirable
- Knowledge of background in the Australia Post systems and processes
- Strong local community knowledge and links
