The Balginjirr community is located at the foot of the Lower Liveringa Ridge on the grassy savannah plans that adjoin the Fitzroy River. It has been said the community site was chosen by the Traditional Owners of the land, the Nyikina Mangala people, due to the many boabs located in the area. The area contains many different kinds of fossils and unusual rock formations. The nearby  Lower Liveringa Pool is an important habitat and sanctuary for birds and wildlife.

The Nyikina people have occupied the lower Fitzroy River for countless generations, and were the backbone of the local pastoral industry on Mount Anderson Station.
